In partnership with Commercial Dive Services Ltd. and Beyond the Reef, we completed a series of rapid visual assessments at multiple locations in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). The goal was to look for areas of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD), which is weakening large Caribbean reef systems by rapidly killing coral colonies, so antibiotic ointment can be administered to help stop the spread of this disease. Using the BATFish, we gathered information on 28 kilometers from transects at 7 sites. The video was post-processed and 3,718 unique coral colonies were observed.
