Exploring Ocean Zones: Life Beneath the Waves (Presentation & Lab, 110 Minutes)
Students will be introduced to:
- Who is MARE
- What are Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs)
- What the Ocean zones are
- How conditions change as we go deeper into the ocean
- What conditions are found in each ocean zone
- Pressure, temperature
- Types of organisms living in each zone
- Introduction to required adaptations to survive in the deeper zones
Lab Activity: Crafting Ocean Zones: Mapping Marine Life and Environments
In this creative, hands-on activity, we will expand your student's understanding of the ocean zones. Using art materials such as construction paper, markers, and gluesticks students will create a visual representation of the different ocean zones, from the Sunlight zone to the Hadal zone. This interactive activity includes labeling, writing about the zone conditions, and placing organisms in their appropriate habitats, fostering a deeper understanding of marine biodiversity and adaptations. Discussion and reflection components encourage students to think critically about how environmental conditions affect marine life.
