New Species 1

Dear Friend,

Last year, MARE embarked on our most ambitious expedition schedule to date, traversing over 1,000 miles of the West Coast. This resulted in the collection and documentation of corals and built greater understanding about our deep-sea ecosystems.

We are very excited and proud to share that we were also part of the discovery of a new species of coral! Named Chromoplexaura cordellbankensis in honor of Cordell Bank, this yellow octoral coral species was also found in other areas along the coast.

The time is NOW to invest in exploration and discovery!

This is just one example of how much more we need to learn about our deep-sea, how critical exploration continues to be. Discoveries like this are our raison d’etre – and they simply could not happen without the generosity of individuals like you. Please consider contributing to deep sea science and understanding.

Donate to MARE today to invest in ocean exploration, discovery, and protection.

To watch MARE’s work – and your funding support – in action, check out video from one of our expeditions and see what we discovered!

Sincerely,
