FALL WARTY SEA CUCUMBER EXPEDITION

MARE, in partnership with California Department of Fish and Wildlife, recently completed the second survey this year in an effort to understand the migratory patterns of warty sea cucumbers and the role deeper waters may play in supporting their populations around Anacapa Island in the northern Channel Islands. During this survey, fewer sea cucumbers were encountered compared to the first survey, in May of this year. This seasonal shift in abundance was expected, based on similar patterns observed in previous SCUBA surveys. Our ROV Beagle completed 4 dives in 2 study areas.  This survey was made possible with funding from the Resources Legacy Fund Foundation.
