GULF OF MEXICO – B 2022

MARE provided data management support and sample collection capabilities using its ROV Beagle during a 12-day research expedition with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This was a continuation of the ‘Gulf of Mexico – A’ expedition earlier this year. The goal was to continue to collect samples in order to understand the genetic distribution of corals across the Gulf of Mexico. NOAA scientists brought home live samples to be propagated in the lab and ultimately outplanted back into the Gulf as a restoration effort. We deployed our ROV Beagle off the R/V Manta from July 18th to the 29th 2022. A total of 32 samples were collected (samples collected under permit #: FGBNMS 2022-005) during 11 dives.

Coral samples collected (permit #: FGBNMS 2022-005) during this expedition by MARE’s ROV Beagle for propagation in the lab in order to study their genetics.
